Marlene had been looking forward to this party all day. It always amazed her how the Marauders could so easily manage to pull a party together within a matter of hours. In all honesty, she really needed this party. If the fact that Amycus was being an ass, and that her knees were fucked up, and that there hadn’t been a party for at least a month wasn’t enough. Everything with her brother had really messed her up. She loved Nate. They had never argued like this before, and this was the first time she had ever gone more than a day without speking to him. Even when he was home she was constantly sending him owls. She knew she was right though. He had to stop treating her like she was a child. Marlene loved Remus. Even taking love out of the equation, she had never felt so strongly about anyone. Everything about him made her smile. He made her feel like the happiest girl in the world. Shouldn’t that be enough? Marlene glanced over at Remus, smiling as she did before turning to light another bonfire.
Nathaniel sat in his office, head in his hands. He was slowly beginning to realise the downside to being his sister’s teacher. He couldn’t escape the rumours about her, he couldn’t block out the fact that she had a boyfriend, and there was no way that he could ignore the fact that he had found her underwear at the bottom of the Astronomy Tower. So why hadn’t he done anything yet? Simple. He actually liked Remus Lupin. He had known him for years! Sure, he hadn’t seen him for just over three years but how much could have really changed about him? As far as he could tell he was the same boy who had his nose stuck in a book and made monthly visits to his mother to make sure she was okay. He even wants to join the war once he graduates! All of this was overruledthough by one thought; ‘He’s had his hands on my sister’.The fury that this one thought brought was probably enough to drive him insane. As much as he tried to calm himself, nothing worked.
Marlene lit the last remaining bonfire before making her way, with Remus, back to the others. Everyone had started arriving now. She noticed Rita in amongst the other Ravenclaws. She was pretty sure she had spotted Bernie tagging along at the back too, but she seemed distracted by something on the ground. Even from this distance it wasn’t difficult to see that something was wrong with Rita. She made a note to check on her later. She was well aware of how much she depended on alcohol when she was upset, and she wasn’t having her best friend fall in the lake. Neither was she having her best friend try to drown Bernie. From the corner of her eye she noticed Noah, and his rather bulky pockets, make an entrance. She furrowed her brow a little. Party girl that she was, she would never condone the use of drugs. No amount of peer pressure would change that fact. Rolling her eyes a little she turned to Remus, linking her hand with his. “So.” she grinned up at him, “I hear that you’re a happy drunk.” A smirk formed on her lips as she swung their arms back and forth. “What’s the chances of me seeing this side of you tonight?”
Nathaniel’s hands slammed down on his desk causing a few items to fall to the floor. He couldn’t sit there any longer. He couldn’t just do nothing. He pushed himself roughly from his chair, knocking it backwards in the process. What he needed was air. Fresh air to clear his mind. Because yes, he wanted nothing more than to grab Remus by the throat and throw him around until all thoughts of Marlene left his mind, but no, he did not want to lose his sister, which he was sure he would if he hurt her precious boyfriend. So he exited his office, running both hands through his hair as he made his way down to the school grounds, completely unaware that everything he needed to avoid would be right there waiting for him.
